Biography
Ambassador Zoran Popov MA is a senior member of the Foreign Service, spending most of his carrier in the European Union Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking active part in the drafting of vital documents in the European integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as the country’s process of visa liberalization with the European Union.
Between 2003 and 2008, Mr. Popov served a diplomatic term at the Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European Union in Brussels. From September 2016 to October 2019, he was assigned to the post of Senior Political Advisor at the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) in Sarajevo, being tasked with promoting the political cooperation between the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) participating states and assisting the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkan countries, coupled with lending political support in the implementation of the Multi-Annual Action Plan on Regional Economic Integration (MAP REA).
He served most recently as a State Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, from 2019 to 2022. In August 2022 he was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to the United States of America.
Ambassador Popov holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Westminster in London. He has completed a series of training courses and seminars on European integration and the EU accession negotiations process, on justice and home affairs as well as for senior officers in the civil service.
